Brought From April 2021

As a precautionary measure, we have withdrawn the OKAI ES500 from sale and are recalling all OKAI ES500 e-scooters bought from Pure Electric since April 2021. Your safety is our greatest concern, and we sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience that this will cause.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE?

We have been made aware of an issue with the electronic brake, operated by the right-hand lever. Although there is still a manual left-hand brake lever, the issue with the electronic brake reduces the effectiveness of one of the braking systems on the product, therefore reducing its safety. We take our riders safety very seriously, leading to us making the decision to recall the product.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?

STOP using the product immediately and do not ride it.

You should return the e-scooter and its charger to any Pure Electric store for a full refund.

Brompton Electric Upgrades

At the end of 2021 Brompton initiated a process of upgrading all Brompton Electric bikes
with two important design improvements to the mudguards.

Since this action, Brompton has received reports of issues with the original mudguard
fitting on some Brompton Electric bikes which has resulted in injury.

All incidents occurred on models that had NOT been fitted with the new mudguard upgrade.

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM

In specific circumstances if an object of a certain size becomes trapped between the bike’s mudguard stay and tyre, it can result in the mudguard getting caught on the tyre and the wheel’s rotation becoming inhibited or stopping suddenly

  • Although the risk of an accident occurring is low, we are participating in Brompton’s official recall programme and encourage all Brompton Electric owners to book a free upgrade appointment as soon as they can.

  • All Brompton Electric bike owners who have NOT previously had the mudguard update fitted. If you are unsure, a guide can be found on the Brompton website: BROMPTON ELECTRIC UPGRADES

  • Customers getting the upgrade will have a new mudguard stay fitted, which increases the clearance between the mudguard and tyre.

    Additionally, Brompton or Pure Electric will fit a new battery catch that reduces the movement between the battery and the e-bike. This minimises the potential for battery disconnections, prolonging the life of the electronics and improving the ride experience.

  • You can get both upgrades to your Brompton Electric bike by booking an upgrade appointment with your local Pure Electric store which you can find here or with your local Brompton Junction or Brompton Electric Accredited Retailer, which you can find here.

  • To show appreciation for your understanding and support, and as a gesture of goodwill, affected customers will be given a credit of £20 for each e-bike affected, redeemable directly from Brompton. In order to receive this voucher, you must first have the upgrade performed on your Brompton Electric bike and then complete the form on the following webpage: Contact us (jotform.com).

    The Brompton Customer Service Team will contact you within 10 working days of submitting the form to provide you with your voucher.


    Compensation can be claimed from today until 21 September 2022.

MicroGo M8 Electric Scoote

As a precautionary measure, we have withdrawn the MicroGo M8 from sale and are recalling all MicroGo M8s bought from Pure Electric from summer 2021 onwards. Your safety is our greatest concern, and we sincerely apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience that this will cause.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE?

We have been made aware of an instance where excess moisture has got inside the product, which creates the potential to cause a safety issue while it is being charged. We take our rider’s safety very seriously, leading us to make the decision to recall the product.

WHAT SHOULD I DO NEXT?

STOP using the product immediately. This includes both charging and riding the product.

You should recycle your e-scooter and its charger at your local recycling centre.

  • In extreme circumstances, we have seen evidence that the product’s internal charging circuit could become compromised. This can potentially cause some safety issues which means that this product falls beneath our high minimum quality standards. Our rider’s safety is at the forefront of every decision we make, leading us to make the decision to recall the product.

  • We appreciate that this recall will be a disappointment and inconvenience, but we take our responsibility to your safety incredibly seriously. Therefore, we strongly recommend and ask you to return.

  • Unfortunately, our current available range doesn’t include any e-scooters in the same price range which is why we’ve worked to offer our next most suitable products with a significant discount to any customers affected by this issue. We’re very sorry to not be able to offer a like for like exchange in this circumstance, however in the interests of customer safety we are making the best possible options available, or alternatively a full refund.
